I've had the pleasure on several occasions while bow hunting in the thick woods along deer trails to have a particular unknown dog that was obviously a beagle basset cross bring deer right down the trail in front of me. I don't know if the dog knew i was there or if he was just having fun moving the deer. The first time he brought some deer in front of me, i wassn't really expecting it, i could hear him belloring from a mile off and he was coming closer and closer and before he got to me the deer crossed on the trail in front of me and kept moving along never noticing me as I suppose they were more interested in the basset-beagle cross moving them along. This little hunter did this on serveral occasions later thruout that season allowing me to kill a couple of deer. The best thing i liked about this dog is that he would bring them in slow and not run them, he would walk them in. I could hear him belloring along a mile or so out bringing them to me in pleanty of time and knew he would bring them right up the trail, that was pretty exciting and i've often thought to try and find one of these dogs for my own someday.

i raised them a few years ago. had some that was pretty good. done a few trials but did not like.and as far as the cross, well you can end up with some pretty wild looking dogs.
